There’s no replacement to working closely with farmers on-the-ground for real and effective change in farming, says Chris Wille
Numerous well-intended businesses will not meet their 2020 zero-deforestation goals. The cattle soy and agreement moratorium in Brazil, that have been currently porous, are upended by the election of Jair Balsonaro. The Cerrado manifesto likely will disappoint.
There’s a thread that is common top-down campaigns never adequately engage farmers
Only farmers (smallholders, plantation managers) could make the noticeable changes we all desire to see. Governments, NGOs, activists, businesses and consumers can regulate, insist, incentivise, help and monitor, but just farmers can make farming sustainable.
